LEARNING TO PAINT
I’ve always admired and drooled over watercolour, but had no idea how to approach it. I’ve dabbled in painting with acrylics and oils and was disappointed to learn I couldn’t wield a palette knife like Van Gogh and Monet. Go figure! I kept to the less intimidating black ink and handlettering as a creative outlet.

Last summer I began taking watercolour classes with a tiny woman named Angela that I found on Kijiji. It was a great decision and such an inviting way to start working the medium. I’ve had so much fun learning, progressing and making marks.

Picasso said that, “art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life,” and it’s true that working on painting really stimulates my brain and releases feel good chemicals. If I’m not able to find the time or energy to paint during my free time on the weekend, I feel sad about it.
I’m really excited to improve and to keep practicing the hobby for years into the future. There’s a wonderful wonder and awe that I get by seeing other artist’s watercolour works and exploring the possibilities of the craft as I progress.
These are some pieces I’ve worked on over the past months, and I’m excited to keep making more!
